Autism Run 2015

10th May 2015

The last event of our Autism Open Day 2015 was Autism Run..We have to wake up early in the morning. Actually not that early. But since some of group members had our College Dinner the day before Autism Run,it was quite hectic. I was really tired since I came back in the evening after 6 hours of tiring journey from Kluang, Johor to UM due to traffic jam, I had to get ready for Malam Anugerah Bestari (MAB) or Fourth College Dinner. We came back at late night. I was really suffered to wake up in the morning due to sleepless nights for weeks.

But, my friend woke me up and I managed to attend Autism Run actively. We were told to wear white shirts with sport attires and we started to walk to Dewan Tunku Canselor (DTC) of Universiti Malaya. In our middle way, we met some of our group members and we all walked together to DTC.

The registration was started at 8.00am and we have registered. There were quite a lot people and most of them were in white shirts and I met my seniors from Faculty of Economics and Administration who are also the organiser of this Autism Run. Before the run began,we all had an aerobic to warm up. After that, Root Beer can drinks distributed to all the participants who join this run. Finally the run begins with males first followed by females. We ran around UM and finally we reach the destination although we didn't end the run immediately. But we had a satisfaction by finishing our race without any trouble.

My friends Vicky, Efy and I had a selfie after the registration

Before the run, participants were working out actively

One of our group member, Aston Kek ran with high spirit

After that, the participants were given goodie bags and lunch packs. At that moment, there was a nice performance performed by Adik Umar and I was really amazed and I realised the God's Grace. He really sang very well and no words to praise the kid. Hope all the autistic kids can achieve even more success and prove the world that they are the Extraordinary Kids. At the end, everyone went back home with awesome memories.

Great performance by Adik Umar

Final Presentation and Wrap Up

29th May 2015

As all of the activities came to an end,we had a final presentation at BSP in the Faculty of Economics and Administration. My group which is Group 5 and Group 6 have to present one by them. I got the chance to present with my friend about our whole activity throughout the session. We did quite well with the help of each other and obviously our group members too. After the Q & A session, group 6 presented their report. At the end, both lecturers explained the final division of marks and they ended our whole Social Engagement course by thanking all of us..

These are my whole experiences in this Social Engagement course. Rather than gaining experiences, I learned a lot. And these autistic kids showed me different path and made me to realise my role as an undergraduate. I will consider all the tasks that we were doing all this while during our sessions with the kids is not for helping purpose but it's our responsibility to look after them as we are sharing the nation together with multi racial people. It's our duty to give a hand for people who need our help and support. Our ancestors sacrificed and toiled in this land and they gained freedom for all of us 58 years ago. Is there any personal relationship between us and them? No right? Then, for what they have to sacrifice and died for us to gain the freedom although they couldn't enjoy the real happiness and peacefrom getting freedom. But, now we are enjoying the fresh air and we are free to go anywhere without any restrictions and we're celebrating this freedom happily without realising the real value and hardships went through by our ancestors to get this FREEDOM. So,time to wake up, play our duty and serve our people. Although we are seperated by different language, religion, culture, beliefs, attires but we are united with this one word, "MALAYSIAN". I'm really proud to be a part of this nation and will try to help these autistic kids by raising awareness among public. At the same time, thanks to all my dear team members for all your understandings and support. Waiting to work with all of you again..I'll seize all those beautiful memories with all of you dudes..These children reminded us of our duty as a Malaysian and human being. You're the EXTRAORDINARY kids who are going to shine forever. The journey just begins........

9th May 2015

Our next activity after the Charity Movie Screening was Autism Seminar which was held on 9th Mei 2015 at Auditorium IPPP..Before that, we had rehearsal on 8th May 2015..The autistic kids were the performers and they came from different organizations..Our teammembers involved in the rehearsal and everyone had fun with these kids.

Continuing with the Autism Seminar, the event was started at 8.30am with registration. Breakfast was prepared and all the files and certificates distributed to participants. Later, registration for raising up children was held. The first slot was "Solving Autism by Early Intervention Programme" and it started at 9.00am. Parents of the autistic kids attended the seminar. Meanwhile, some of our group members assigned to be baby sitters. They hav eto take care and look after the autistic kids when their parents went to seminar. As I couldn't make for this event on that day due to my dental appoinment, I heard a lot of interesting stories from my friend. She told it was really tough and annoying in the beginning to look after these kids. But, she realised that it's not easy to take care of them by fulfilling all their needs without hearing anything from the kids themselves.  She really praised the kids' parents who are very patience whenever handling these kids. She also shared her own experiences which was taking care of small kid and he was running everywhere but she managed to look after him..But at the end, she told me that she has realised and think about public responses towards autistic kids generally and she also said that we should raise awareness even after we wrap up this course..And I agreed to her on that day. I can imagine all the wonderful memorable moments with these kids.

These are some clips that snapped during the event

After that, around 10.00am, the second slot which entitled "How to Foster Islamic Values Whenever Facing Challenges in Raising Autistic Kids" continued by third slot which was sharing session of parents in terms of raising up and taking care of their autistic kids.

The second part was the much awaited event which was the performances of the kids. The children performed well and most of them are gifted with a lot of talents. All our members enjoyed thoroughlythe whole event and it ended at 4.30pm.

Charity Movie Screening

25th April 2015
The next day was our very first attempt in approaching public and raise the awareness about autism among public..It was Movie Screening video..Before that, some of the members actively shared about charity movie screening in social medias like Facebook and Whatsapp..The movie was screened in Faculty of Economics and Administration (FEA)..

Sharing and inviting public for Charity Movie Screening in Facebook

The Charity Movie Screening was started with discussion with the President of Muslim Autism Malaysia Club about the topic of  "Introduction of Autism" at 9.00am..He was really experienced and also a very patient man..He explained about the the symptoms of autism in the beginning stage. Some of the symptoms are very less or no eye-contact, no realisation of the existence of the people around them, frequently repeating the words told by people around them, disturbed with any things around them due to the extreme sensitivity in terms of noise, appearance, smell or even taste and lastly, a very deep concentration on a certain object..And we also managed to get many more interesting information from the director..We also able to know more about his club in detail..Basically although the club named with Muslim, all the friends from other religions also accepted to join this club..The most unique is, this club was basically run by the parents of autistic kids. The main objective of this club is to share the feelings of the parents and also support them in terms of raising their autistic kids with love and want them to be successful in future..

After the discussion, around 11.00am,the movie of the day, entitled 'Running Boy' inspired from true story was played..The movie basically describes the pure love between a mother and the autistic kid. The kid was hyperactive and his mother faced a lot troubles in raising him. But finally the boy who have the talent of running, ran for his mother and at the end he won the medal..This emotional film attracted many people. The money we received from movie screening and sales of candies and drinks was used for the purpose of charity..Around 2pm, the film ends..

Inroduction to Course

Before I start describing our activities, first of all, let me give a brief introduction about Social Engagement..As an undergraduate in UM, I'm really very much grateful to take this Social Engagement as one of the vital course in this Sem 2 of first year..It's a compulsary course which all the first year undergraduates should take and have to accomplish their activities by completing all the credit hours in order to pass with flying colours in that course. Since there is no written exam, undergraduates have to involve in all the activities and explore their topic as much as they can. But as time flies, you''ll realise grades aren't the only thing you should achieve to success in life. We should know to engage with the society as well we should also be aware of all the major public concern and issues..That's the reason we can define Social Engagement as one of the fundamental course which build more resilient relationships with community..And we, Group 5 decided to know more about autism and we came up with Autism Open Day 2015 with the collaboration of Persatuan Autisme Muslim Malaysia..So,that's the short briefing of this course..
